Up To His Neck is a side quest in Gothic 1 Remake that tasks you with tracking down Bran. In this guide, we’ll show you exactly where to find Bran, how to reach his location, and what choices you’ll have once you meet him.
Starting Location
The “Up to His Neck” quest becomes available after completing “A Few Drops Too Much.” Travel to the New Camp and speak with the Rice Lord, who can be found in the tower overlooking the rice fields. He will ask you to track down his missing foreman, Bran.
Ask Malon About Bran
Once the quest begins, your first task is to find a peasant named Malon and ask him about Bran. Malon is working in the Rice Fields right behind the watchtower.
When you talk to him, pick the option “Because I’m asking you nicely.” He will tell you that Bran went to a cave near the pond. If you ask him more, he will also say the cave is just outside the camp, next to a pond that has Bloodflies around it.
One thing to know is that if you pick an intimidating dialogue, then Malon won’t talk. You will have to beat him in a fight before he gives you the same information.
Where to Find the Cave by the Pond
The cave Malon told you about is just south of the New Camp. To get there, leave the New Camp via the front gate and keep going straight. As you get close to the pond, look to your right, and you will see the cave. When you arrive, you will find an NPC named Renyu standing near the entrance.
Get Inside the Cave
Talk to Renyu and ask him about Bran, then enter the cave. Once you are in, just follow the path all the way to the end of the cave.
At the end, you will find an NPC named Jacko. Beat him, and he will tell you that Bran has gone after a hidden stash that belongs to Silas, hidden somewhere in his basement.
How to Get Into Silas’s Basement
Silas is inside the Tavern in the New Camp. First, equip the Digger’s Clothes so you can enter without any trouble. Once inside, find Rayk and talk to him. Give him a beer and pay him 30 ore nuggets. He will tell you that there is a secret way into the basement through the lake.
Leave the Tavern and go to the back of the building. Jump into the water and dive down until you find an opening beneath the Tavern.
Swim through the tunnel and follow it to the end. You’ll come out near a staircase that leads directly into the basement, where you can finally speak with Silas.
Where to Find Bran
At the top of the stairs, you’ll find Bran’s lifeless body. Open the nearby chest to get Bran’s Axe to confirm Bran’s identity.
Once you’ve gathered the evidence, swim back through the tunnel and return to the Tavern to confront Silas about what happened. After speaking with him, head back to the Rice Lord and report your findings to complete the quest.
