During The Lost Apprentice, you’ll be tasked with tracking down Caine, Cor Kalom’s elusive apprentice. If you’re struggling to find Caine or don’t want to spend hours wandering, then this article will guide you through every step of The Lost Apprentice in Gothic 1 Remake.
Starting Location
Once you begin Chapter 2, make your way to the Swamp Camp and speak with Cor Kalom. Let him know that you’re ready to take on new tasks, and he’ll explain that his apprentice named Caine, has disappeared. He will task you with finding Caine.
Find Caine’s Hut
As the quest starts, your first task is to find Caine’s hut. It’s marked by the red dot on the left side of the map.
Starting from Cor Kalom’s laboratory, head right toward the smithy. Continue past Baal Cadar and follow the path straight ahead until you arrive at the herb-mashing area where Baal Orun can be found.
Across from the mashing area, you’ll see two huts with a novice smoking a hookah between them. Caine’s hut is the one on the left.
Go inside and pick up The Drawing of the Abandoned Mine, which is resting on top of a box in his room.
Ask Lester about Drawing
Before setting off for the Abandoned Mine, speak with Lester, who can be found near the entrance to the Swamp Camp. He’ll share some additional information about the Abandoned Mine.
Reach Abandoned Mine
To reach the Abandoned Mine, start at the northern gate of the Old Camp and cross the bridge ahead.
Once across, turn right and follow the path straight until you come across a wooden bridge. Walk underneath it, then take the next right to find the entrance to the Abandoned Mine.
Where to Find Caine in Gothic 1 Remake
Once you arrive at the Abandoned Mine, speak with the guard, Orry. You’ll need to choose the appropriate dialogue option to get past him and obtain the key to the mine.
- If you’re a member of the Old Camp, tell Orry that Raven is looking for him.
- If you’ve joined the Brotherhood, offer him some Swampweed.
After receiving the key, unlock the door behind Orry and head inside the Abandoned Mine.
From here, follow the railway tracks until you reach a wooden bridge. Continue straight ahead until you come to an area where the passage is partially covered in water. Then turn left to reach a large underground lake.
Dive into the lake and swim down to the bottom, where you’ll find a star-shaped winch. Pick it up and return to the surface. Next, swim to the wooden platform located in the far corner of the lake.
Climb the ladder onto the platform, then turn left and attach the winch to the gate’s pulley mechanism. Interact with the winch to open the gate and continue deeper into the mine.
Dive back into the water and swim through the gate you just opened. Once you’re on the other side, return to the surface and continue following the railway tracks.
When the tracks come to an end, drop down into another flooded chamber with a waterfall. Follow the path beneath the waterfall to enter the next section of the mine.
Inside, move with the water current until you can climb out again. From there, follow the tunnel ahead until you reach another flooded area.
Dive into the water and follow the current. When you reach a fork, take the path on the right. This is a long underwater section. About halfway through, you’ll find a small air pocket where you can surface and recover before diving back in.
Continue following the current until you pass through a broken iron grate and emerge in a chamber with a waterfall.
Head up the stairs to reach the area where the Undead Orc awaits. Defeat the creature, then be sure to loot both the Undead Orc’s body and Caine’s corpse nearby.
With the evidence collected, return to the Swamp Camp and report back to Cor Kalom to complete The Lost Apprentice quest.
