Hogsmeade Valley: All 5 Merlin Trial Puzzles
This guide shows how to solve all Merlin Trial puzzles in the Hogsmeade area of the Hogwarts Legacy game, which released on 10th February 2023. Solving Merlin Trials increases your gear capacity.

1) Moonlight Merlin Trial
After using the Mallowsweet, three stone pillars with moonlight gems will activate in the area nearby. You will also find clusters of butterflies in the area. Go near the butterflies and use the Lumos spell, which will make them follow you. Take them to the giant stone pillar, which will light it up. Light up the three giant stone pillars to complete the Merlin Trial. Take the path going east to find the first cluster of butterflies. Continue on the same path to find the second cluster of butterflies. Continue on the same path and climb up the rocks at the end to find the third cluster of butterflies.
2) Moonlight Merlin Trial
The location of the Merlin Trial is shown in the picture below. To reach there, you need to remove the grating from the location shown in the pictures below. Burn the vines covering the grating. Then remove the grating and go inside the cave. Now turn left and go out from the hole on the left side. Then climb up the rocks to reach the Merlin Trial.
As the trial starts, three stone pillars with moonlight gems will activate in the area nearby. You will also find clusters of butterflies in the area. Go near the butterflies and use the Lumos spell, which will make them follow you. Take them to the giant stone pillar, which will light it up. Light up the three giant stone pillars to complete the Merlin Trial. All the pillars and butterflies are near to the trial and very hard to miss, except one butterfly cluster, which is inside the cave on the east side through which you reached the trial location.
3) Giant Stone Ball Merlin Trial
After using the Mallowsweet, go north and you will find a giant. Push it down the hill on the west side as shown in the picture below and guide it to the hole downhill to complete the trial.
4) Light Torches Merlin Trial
To complete the trial, you need to light up three torches nearby. The location of all the torches is shown in the pictures below. Torch #1 is right in front of the trial in the south direction. Go North from the trail to find Torch#2 and #3 on top of the rocks as shown in the pictures below.
5) Destroy Stones Pillars Merlin Trial
After using the Mallowsweet, destroy the five stone pillars around the symbol. All the stone pillars are very easy to spot, except one which is hidden behind a giant stone as shown in the second picture below.
