This article covers “A Request from Kol” Gaul’s second side story in Monster Hunter Stories 3, where the player helps Gaul to track down a missing villager who went out hunting days ago.
Starting Location
You can start this mission after completing the first main story quest “Forbidden Ground” in Sheparden. Talk to the NPC Gaul at the camp, and he will ask for your help in finding a villager who went out hunting a few days ago and hasn’t returned.

A Request from Kol Walkthrough
To find the missing villager, fast-travel to the Mt. Cataract lookout point. Here, you will meet a group of search party NPCs. Speak with the search party NPCs. They will tell you that the missing villager went off to hunt a Yian Garuga in the skies above Canalta Timberland and point you toward the highest point on the top of the mountain.

After speaking with them, your next objective is to reach the summit of Mt. Canalta. Head toward the mountain and begin climbing once you reach its base.

As you make your way up, keep an eye out for an upward shaft of wind. Use this wind current to glide higher and reach the peak of the mountain.

At the top of Mt. Canalta, look around the area carefully to find a clue showing that the missing villager has fallen into a hole below.

Now, move to the edge and drop straight down into the opening. Do not use your Monstie’s glide ability here, as you need to fall directly into the area below.

You will land inside the Frozen Grotto. From the entrance, head south and continue forward until you reach a crossing. Take the left path at this first junction and follow it deeper into the cave. As you move ahead, you will soon come across the lost villager, who is being attacked by a Tetranadon.

Defeat the Tetranadon to rescue the villager. Once the monster is defeated, the quest “A Request From Kol” will be completed.
