Help the Cursed Monk | Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

This article will guide you on how to complete all the objectives of the quest “Help the Cursed Monk” in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).


Quest Start (Get Sentient Amulet/ Talking Amulet)

The Sentient Amulet is located deep down the lava levels of the Grymforge. Starting from the Adamantine Forge Waypoint go down the stairs that lead to the Adamantine Forge.

When you get to the edge, Jump over the gap to the southwest to reach the stairs and continue walking until you come to the lava area. You can cast Jump on a character or use Misty Step to cross the gap.

The Sentient Amulet is inside an Adamantine Chest that rests on a platform in the center of the lava. Move there by hopping from one platform to another to reach the chest.

Unlock the Adamantine chest with a lockpick [Sleight of Hand 20], extracting the Sentient Amulet from within. This amulet will free the Trapped monk, who eagerly seeks Shirra Clarwen at the Open Hand Temple near Wyrm’s Crossing in Baldur’s Gate.

Travel to Wyrm’s Crossing/ Find Shirra Clarwen

You must reach Act 3 and finish the majority of the story in order to advance the quest. As soon as you get to Rivington Act 3, you can go to Wyrm’s Crossing and the Open Hand Temple.

There find Sister Yannis to learn more about Shirra’s whereabouts. She will tell you that the cursed monk’s granddaughter died a year ago, so you won’t be able to meet her. She is buried so you can find Shirra’s tomb.

Open the Ornate Wooden Hatch in the temple’s kitchen to gain access. Look locate the casket with the name of the monk’s granddaughter. Place the amulet inside the correct casket by interacting with it.

After you accomplish this, Shirra’s body will come to life, but the cursed monk will emerge rather than Shirra. He will be appreciative of your assistance in locating his granddaughter, but he won’t let you go until you have freed him of the curse.

Agree

If you agree to help the monk break the curse, you will need to pass two checks. You must pass each of them with a minimum score of 15 to avoid the curse. As a reward, you will receive the spell Tasha’s Hideous Laughter.

Refuse

If you refuse, the cursed monk will attack your group. He will summon other undead for help, which you must defeat. You will not receive Tasha’s Hideous Laughter spell.
