This article will guide you on how to complete the Horse Guai quest in Black Myth: Wukong, released on 20 August 2024.
1) Horse Guai/Ma Tianba Location (Chapter 1)
Location: Bamboo Hill > Back Hills
Starting from the Back Hills checkpoint, take the left path and head down the slope. At the bottom, turn left and follow the path into a cave. Inside, you’ll find Horse Guai/Ma Tianba near a meditation spot. Whenever you meet the Horse Guai, make sure to fully exhaust his dialogue.
2) Horse Guai/Ma Tianba Location (Chapter 2)
Location: Sandgate Village > Village Entrance
Fast travel to the Village Entrance Shrine in Sandgate Village and make your way toward the village. If the main gate is locked, take the path on the right to enter from the back.
Once inside, defeat the mini-boss, Earth Wolf. You’ll see the Horse Guai/Ma Tianba tied to a pole on the right side of the village, but you won’t be able to free him. Make sure to fully exhaust his dialogue.
3) Horse Guai/Ma Tianba Location (Chapter 3)
Location: New Thunderclap Temple > Temple Entrance
Fast travel to the “Temple Entrance” Shrine in the “New Thunderclap Temple.” From the shrine, go straight into the temple and exit through the back.
Head up the stairs on your left, then turn right. Take the stairs going down on the left and enter the building.
Once inside, go upstairs. At the top, turn left, and you’ll find the Horse Guai/Ma Tianba. Make sure to talk with him until he completes all his dialogue.
4) Horse Guai/Ma Tianba Location (Chapter 4)
Location: Webbed Hollow > Middle Hollow
Starting from the shrine, you need to drop down to the area behind it, on the left side. This will lead you into an area filled with cocoons.
Note: There is no point of return if you don’t speak with Horse Guai in chapter 4 and defeat the boss Yin-Yang Fish in chapter 5.
Keep moving forward until you reach a ledge, then drop down from it. After that, enter the cave that has two torches at its entrance. Once inside, take the path to the right and continue along the way that is lit by torches.
You will reach an area with cocoons, at the start only there is a large cocoon. Break it to free the Horse Guai/Ma Tianba. Make sure to talk with him until he completes all his dialogue.
Interact with the cord of the Elemental Cart (Chapter 5)
Location: Furnace Valley > Valley Entrance
Go to the right side of the shrine and enter the lava cave to find this cart. Ma Tianba’s spirit has been trapped inside the cart. Pull on the rope until his dialogue repeats.
Defeat boss Yin-Yang Fish (Chapter 5)
Location: Furnace Valley > The Emerald Hall
Follow the path to the left of the Emerald Hall Shrine and climb up the stairs to encounter Boss Yin-Yang Fish and defeat him.
Interact with the cord of the Elemental Cart (Chapter 5)
Location: Furnace Valley > Valley Entrance
Return to the lava cave where Ma Tianba’s spirit has been trapped inside the cart. Pull the rope and this should free the Horse Guai’s spirit and will reward you with the Dark Thunder transformation spell, allowing you to become a powerful Horse Guai in battle.
