This article will guide you on all the new extracting and ascending mechanics in Dark and Darker that were just introduced in Wipe 4.
The new Wipe 4 update has changed how you escape and go deeper into the dungeon. Portals are now harder to find and not the best way to get around. Instead, the new update has introduced new blue escape static points. These blue escapes show up on the mini-map with markers to tell you where they are and when they are active.
All Escape Mechanics in Dark and Darker: Wipe 4 Update
There are 4 different static escape points and Portal escape
Rope Escape
It is a single-player escape mechanism where you climb up a rope to escape and is available throughout the latter half of the match. Players need to interact with the rope to slowly ride up, but they can still get hurt while escaping.
Stair Escape
It is also a single-player escape mechanism. When the stair escape is ready, the blue torches light up near the stairs and the gate opens. At the same time, already-used stair escapes have extinguished torches and raised gates.
Lift Escape
Lift escapes are group escapes. In the Goblin Caves, the lift goes up and down automatically. You can jump on it anytime to leave the game. In the Ice Caverns, lift escape can be used only once and must be activated by interacting with a lever. Be cautious of enemies as they can take a ride on the lift along with the player.
Raft Escape
It is also a group escape marked by a blue boat on the mini-map. It spawns several times during the match.
Portal Escape
Portals escape now spawn at the circular stone markers around the map, towards the end of the match. Also, they don’t appear on the mini-map.
It’s advisable to remember the location of Portal Escapes, as they can come to the player’s rescue when other static escapes are no longer available.
How to Descend into the Abyss in Dark and Darker
There are two maps to descend into the Abyss in Dark and Darker, follow these steps:
Inferno Layer
- Location: Accessible from the Crypts.
- Steps: To get to this map, look for red static staircases on the mini-map. These passages will be closed initially but their torches will ignite with a red flame towards the end of the match. Walk into them to travel to the Inferno Layer.
Look for red static staircases on the mini-map
- It can be used by any number of players.
- Currently, the Inferno map has only portal escape.
Ice Abyss
- Location: Found in the Ice Caverns.
- Steps: Find any cliffside and wait until the last 3 minutes of the match. The dark hole that would usually kill you will begin to glow with red swirling winds, indicating the Ice Abyss is open. Jump down to be transported into the Ice Abyss.
- Currently, Ice Abyss has both rope escape and portal escape.
