Upgrading and repairing your gear is essential to surviving the backyard dangers in Grounded 2. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to upgrade and repair weapons and armor, unlock the right stations, and gather key materials to power up your equipment efficiently.
Unlock and Access the Smithing Station
To unlock the Smithing Station, advance through the main story until you complete the “Art of War” quest.
Collect Core Materials
Brittle Whetstones
To upgrade weapons in Grounded 2, you’ll need Brittle Whetstones, which are crafted from Brittle Quartzite Shards. These shards are commonly found in underground areas like caves and anthills, especially in the early game. You’ll need a hammer to break Quartzite nodes and collect the shards. Once you have enough, head to a workbench to craft them into Brittle Whetstones.
Brittle Plating
To upgrade armor in Grounded 2, you’ll need Brittle Plating, which is crafted from Brittle Marble Shards. These shards can usually be found in underground tunnels, anthills, or near rock formations. You’ll need a hammer to mine the marble chunks and collect the shards.
Perform Standard Upgrades (Levels 1–5)
Once you have obtained the required upgrade materials, proceed to the Smithing Station in Grounded 2. You can upgrade each weapon and armor piece individually from level 1 to level 5.
Each weapon upgrade increases both damage and durability by 5%, capping at +25% at level 5. Armor also follows the same +5% per level boost pattern for defense and durability. Keep in mind, upgrades apply only to that specific item.
