Like any good RPG, Elden Ring also contains magic. In Elden Ring, There are two types of magical spells: Sorcery & Incantations. Sorcery requires Intelligence attributes and Incantations require Faith Attributes. Some of the starting classes allow players to use magic from the start of the game. But if you did not start the game as a mage, nothing to worry about, you can still learn and use spells. This guide shows how to learn and use magic spells in Elden Ring.

How to get and use Sorcery Spells

Sorcery requires Intelligence Attributes. First, you will need to find Sorcery Spells. Once, you have found a sorcery spell, you will need to memorize it at a Site of Grace. You must have a staff equipped to cast sorcery spells. Astrologer & Prisoner classes come with starter spells and staff. Below, I will show the location of the Sorcery Spell Merchant and the location of an early game staff that will help you start using sorcery spells.

Where to Learn Sorcery Spells

Go to the Waypoint Ruins basement as shown in the picture below. There you will have to defeat Mad Pumpkin Head boss. After defeating the boss, proceed inside and talk to the NPC named Sellen. She is a Sorcery Spell Merchant. You can purchase spells from her.

Where to Find Staff early

Many enemies drop staff, but these drops are random. Staff drop rate is also small, but if you kill enough enemies, the chances are that you will get a staff. If you are still finding it difficult to get a staff, then you can purchase Astrologer’s Staff for 800 runes from the merchant marked in the pictures below. Astrologer’s Staff is also the starter staff for the Astrologer class.

How to get and use Incantation Spells

Incantation requires Faith attributes. First, you will need to find Incantation Spells. Once, you have found an incantation spell, you will need to memorize it at a Site of Grace. You must have a Sacred Seal equipped to cast incantations. Confessor & Prophet classes come with starter spells and a Sacred Seal. Below, I will show the location of Incantation Merchant and the location of an early game Sacred Seal that will help you start using incantations.

Where to Learn Incantation Spells

A couple of hours into the game, you will go to the Table of Lost Grace. If you have not been able to unlock it yet, then keep playing, and eventually it will be unlocked. You can purchase incantation spells from the merchant in Table of Lost Grace as shown in the pictures below.
