When you get the Moonlantern, you get the option to release the pixie or keep the lamp. This article will show the difference between both choices.
You will acquire Moonlantern during Jaheira’s side quest. After you inspect the Moonlantern, you’ll learn that there’s a foulmouthed pixie in there, called Dolly Dolly Dolly. Here you have the option to release the pixie or keep the lamp.
Release Pixie
If you opt to release Pixel, you lose the light in the Moonlantern. If you do manage to liberate the pixie, you can then ask her for assistance in overcoming the shadow curse. Dolly will reward you with Filigreed Feywild Bell which will give you a blessing that permits you to pass through the shadow curse.
Keep the Lamp
If you opt to keep the Moonlantern then you can simply use it in traversing the shadow curse. However, you have the option of releasing the pixie at a later time without any bad consequences for Dolly.
