This article will guide you on how to solve the Safhe Shatranj Chess Puzzle in the game Genshin Impact 3.4. To solve this puzzle you need to first find all 5 Chess Pieces & then 7 Activation Devices. In short, after all the Chess Pieces are collected, place them on the Chess Board in Safhe Shatranj to trigger the Apocalypse Lost quest. It also allows players to find seven Activation Devices.
CHESS PIECE LOCATIONS
1) Border Fort Chess Piece Location
This piece’s location is unlocked during the Dune-Entombed Fecundity Part I quest.
As part of the quest, you have to unlock the switch by defeating the Consecrated Scorpion. Then activate that switch to spawn a chest
2) Soulferry Chess Piece Location
This piece’s location is unlocked during the Dune-Entombed Fecundity Part II quest. As part of the quest, you have open the ancient gate to reveal the ruins and a chest
3) Khaj-Nisut Chess Piece Location
This piece’s location is unlocked during the Dune-Entombed Fecundity Part III quest. As part of the quest, descend the Ruin Golem’s tunnel and open the gate to the ruins to reveal another chest.
4) Temple of Gurabad Chess Piece Location
This piece’s location is unlocked during The Falcon’s Hunt quest. As part of the quest, obtain Liloupar’s fragment and a chest will appear.
5) King Deshret’s Pillar Chess Piece Location
The last chess piece is located back in Liloupar’s Cell. The entrance to Liloupar’s Cell is from the ruins in Safhe Shatranj. This is the same place where you first met the Jinni. Return to the location and an Exquisite Chest should be found underneath the tree trunk.
How to Use the Chess Pieces
After completing the second quest in The Dirge of Bilqis Quest Chain – The Temple Where Sand Flows Like Tears, the sands in the Temples Forsaken will recede, and will be renamed as Safhe Shatranj, which will reveal the chessboard-like area! Upon placing all five chess pieces in the chessboard, you will unlock the Apocalypse Lost quest
Head to the Safhe Shatranj and start placing the chess pieces. Once you interact with the chessboard, it will tell you what type of chess piece should be there.
Activation Device Locations for Chess Piece
All seven pieces are revealed after completing the Apocalypse Lost quest only. After placing a chess piece, you must then look for an Activation Device specific to that chess piece to activate it. There are seven Activation devices to collect.
1) Activation Device King Deshret’s Pillar
Teleport on the northern waypoint of the Mausoleum as shown in the map. Follow the stairs going up from Opet Hall to the Mausoleum in the south direction to find the device.
2) Activation Device Border Fort
Teleport to the Aaru Village waypoint and go in front of the Village Chief’s House to find the Activation Device near the ledge that overlooks the village.
3) Activation Device Soulferry
Teleport to the waypoint under Khemenu Temple as marked on the map. Next, go to your left and follow the path to find the device in the middle of the corridor.
4) Activation Device Khaj-Nisut
Go to the Khaj-Nisut to find the device in front of the entrance to the ruins.
5) Activation Device Temple of Gurabad
The activation Device is at the door of the Gurabad Ruins. Go to the eastern teleport waypoint of Safhe Shatranj and follow the path to reach the location.
6) The Mausoleum of King Deshret requires The Fallen Falcon Quest
The Mausoleum of King Deshret’s device is only obtainable and installable after completing the Apocalypse Lost quest. You unlock the Apocalypse Lost quest by obtaining all the previous 5 Chess Pieces scattered around the Desert of Hadramaveth. This device is found just in front of the Mausoleum of King Deshret near the eastern teleport waypoint.
7) Deshret’s Glass Goblet requires The Fallen Falcon Quest
Mt. Damavand’s device is only obtainable and installable after completing the Apocalypse Lost quest. The device is near the teleport waypoint.
Head to the Safhe Shatranj and start placing all seven activation devices for the chess pieces. Once you interact with the chessboard, it will tell you what type of activation devices should be there.
Each of the restored Activation Devices will grant a Remarkable Chest that rewards. The La Luna Rossa achievement in Genshin Impact will be rewarded once all seven Devices are restored.
