In The Outer Worlds 2, the “Pressing Cares” quest throws players into one of the game’s most emotional and morally complex choices: deciding whether to let Audra die or save her. In this guide, we’ll break down what happens in each choice, the rewards and consequences that follow, and which path might best fit your playstyle or moral compass.

There are three possible outcomes to this part of the quest, depending on your choices and skill levels:
Go With Audra’s Sacrifice Plan (No Skill Check Needed)
You can agree with Audra’s plan to sacrifice herself and blow up the ship. If you try to stop her or walk away, Niles will side with her and help her carry out the mission anyway.
Rescue Audra and Leave the Ship Alone (Speech 3 Required)
Use your Speech Skill (Level 3) to convince Audra not to go through with her plan. This option lets you save her life and leave the ship untouched.
Rescue Audra and Destroy the Ship (Speech 3 + Explosives 3)
With Speech 3, persuade Audra not to sacrifice herself, but still decide to blow up the ship. You can either rig the explosives yourself (if you have Explosives 3) or let Niles handle it for you.
There are two ways the ship can be destroyed: Audra can sacrifice herself, or you can blow it up after talking her out of the plan (needs Speech 3). If you save her, you can set the bomb yourself (Explosives 3) or let Niles do it. You can also choose not to destroy the ship if you pass a Speech Check.
Rewards
Completing the “Pressing Cares” quest grants you a solid set of rewards for your efforts. You’ll earn 1690 XP, helping you progress toward your next level, and receive Niles’ Mod Kit, a valuable upgrade item that can be used at any Workbench to enhance Niles’ armor and weapon.
