In the mission “High Price to Pay”, after returning to the Lodge in New Atlantis, players will receive word that their companions on the Eye have been attacked by a Starborn known as the Hunter. At this critical juncture in the mission, players face a dire choice between defending the Lodge or rushing to the Eye to rescue their friends. It’s important to note that either decision carries potentially devastating consequences.
Defend the Lodge or Go to the Eye – High Price to Pay
Regardless of the path chosen, a companion will perish as the main story quest ‘High Price to Pay’ unfolds. Opting to stay and defend the Lodge will lead to losing one companion from the Eye while heading to the Eye will result in the death of a companion from the Lodge.
Stay and Defend the Lodge?
If you opt to remain at the Lodge, you will eventually attacked by the Hunter. Following a brief clash, everyone must descend to the basement and navigate the tunnels to escape from the lodge.
Upon reaching their spacecraft, players must then proceed to the Eye to check on their fellow companions. It’s at this point that they will discover one of their comrades has met a tragic fate. In my playthrough, ‘Sarah Morgan‘ had tragically perished.
Go to the Eye?
If you choose to head to the Eye, leave the Lodge and make your way there. At the Eye, you’ll discover that everyone is alive but injured. Upon your return to the Lodge, you’ll encounter a harrowing sight: one of your companions will have tragically perished, lying in a pool of blood. In my playthrough, ‘Barret‘ had tragically perished.
What Happens to the Dead Companion’s Gear?
Even though one of the companions is gone, their inventory remains preserved. Later in the mission, upon returning to the Lodge, you’ll discover your departed companions’s belongings in a basement chest. This includes their entire inventory at the time of their demise, along with their outfit.
