Hogwarts Legacy: The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament

This guide shows the complete walkthrough of The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament main quest in the Hogwarts Legacy game, which released on 10th February 2023. The quest will be available after you have completed Percival Rackham’s Trial main quest.

Talk to Gladwin moon

As the quest becomes available, go and talk to Gladwin Moon near the Reception Hall as shown in the picture below. Reach the marked location and you will have to wait there for Gladwin Moon to appear.

Remove the Moon from the Statue

Go near the statue next to Gladwin and interact with it to collect the moon. This can be done only during the night.

Follow Gladwin

Follow Gladwin and he will take you to the Faculty Tower. He will teach you Alohomora spell there, which is used to lockpick.

Use Alohomora to open the Faculty Tower Door

Once you have learned the Alohomor spell, approach a locked door and interact with it. This will start the lockpicking mini-game.

Use your joystick to move the green spark into the hole in the green dial as shown in the picture below. Now rotate the green dial until the green gear on the bottom right corner starts rotating as shown in the picture below. The green light in the gear will also start glowing. Leave the green dial at this position.

Now use your joystick to move the red spark into the hole in the red dial as shown in the picture below. Now rotate the red dial until the red gear in the center starts rotating as shown in the picture below. The red light in the gear will also start glowing. When both the green and red gears are rotating, leave both dials in this position few seconds until the door unlocks.

Retrieve the Demiguise Moon in the Prefect’s Bathroom

Go through the door and climb up the stairs until you reach the Prefect’s Bathroom as shown in the picture below. Enter inside and collect the Demiguise Moon. This can be done only during the night.

Retrieve the Demiguise Moon in the Hospital Wing

Go back outside and climb up the stairs to reach the Hospital Wing. Collect the Demiguise Moon there as shown in the picture below. This can be done only during the night.

Return the Demiguise Moons to Gladwin

Go back to Gladwing and talk to him to complete the quest.
