In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to complete the side quest ‘The Mystifying Case of the Midnight Marauder’ in The Outer Worlds 2.
Starting Location
To begin this quest, head to the residential area of Fairfield, located on the northern side of town. Once there, look for Loss Prevention Officer Warren L. Warren, who can be found standing on the porch of a house (refer to the map below for his exact location). Speak with him, and he’ll explain that food has been mysteriously disappearing during the night. Agree to help him catch the thief, and this will start the side quest “The Mystifying Case of the Midnight Marauder.”

Track down Missing Foodstuffs
Head inside the building next to Officer Warren and look for a scrap of paper lying beneath the fridge. Read the note, then interact with the terminal nearby.

At the terminal screen, enter the code from the paper to access the administrator controls, and choose the option to unseal the cellar.

Enter the Cellar
Once that’s done, exit the building and head to its west side of the same building to find the cellar entrance. Go inside to discover that a group of Protectorate troops is holed up there.

After uncovering that these soldiers have been stealing food from the Fairfield greenhouse, you’ll need to decide how to handle the situation. Speak with Sentinel Lorenz, and you can either take a diplomatic approach or attack her immediately. The quest outcome and rewards remain the same regardless of which option you choose.

Method 1: Convincing Lorenz with Observation 2
- I’m not here to fight.
- That must have been you Warren spotted leaving the greenhouse then.
- Observation 1: Your hands are shaking, and you stink of old saltuna. You’re starving, aren’t you?
- To Warren: So much for your fancy theories.
- Observation 2: Let’s stop pretending. Your squad’s starving, low on ammo – you’re in no shape to fight.
- Deny it all you want. But you know I’m right.
